Winchester is a city located in Clark County, Kentucky named after Winchester, Virginia. The population of the city according to the 2010 census is 18,368. The city has a total area of 7.9 sq mi with land covering 7.8 sq mi of the total area and water covering 0.04 sq mi. The elevation of Winchester City is 994ft. The city is at the center of Clark County. This center is at 29 km east of Lexington and 24 km west of Mt. Sterling.

Winchester City also has a number of historic sites and annual cultural events and fairs. The city is also famous for the home of Beer Cheese festival. People celebrate this  annual event in June. This festival actually first began in Clark County near Winchester. There are also several historical sites in Winchester City. The famous one is Bluegrass Heritage Museum.

Its economy is well developed and this is as a result of big companies established in the City which offer high number of employees hired. One of the companies is Amazon which was established in this City in 2012 and has 400 employees employed from City. The economy also supports locally owned small businesses. Climate

The Winchester city has a humid subtropical climate which is abbreviated as “Cfa”. This type of climate is seen to experience cool winters and hot humid summers.

Education

There are two sections of education at Winchester – the higher education and high school education. The city has only one high school that is George Rogers Clark High School. Kentucky Wesleyan College established the first high education. Later on after the college left, the local churches organized another college for high education purposes. This was Southeastern Christian College. The college did not stay for long too and later on the campus turned into a public park. Currently the Winchester Campus is home to Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
